Free Bible Texting Classes
Hub and Spoke Model
Have you ever wanted a unique way to get youth excited about Bible study? You have found it. This class uses the very thing youth use all day long: texting. Using this method, youth can get involved with the Bible in the same way or similar way that they communicate with their friends
How it works
The texting classes are arranged Monday through Saturday, so Sunday is a free day. Most leaders/youth leaders send out a different text each morning, but you can feel free to be creative. For example, some leaders create some type of chat room and post it there each morning. Students will join during the day and comment on that day's text.
Each text is set up with the following layout:
Answer from the previous text/Lesson with new information/Question which will be answered in the following text.
For example, this is a random text: "A: Jesus chose 12 Apostles/L: Many people admired and spent time with Jesus as he traveled around preaching, teaching, and healing people./Q: How many years did Jesus spend doing his ministry (from baptism to crucifixion)?"
The first part of each text is the answer from the previous text, the second part is the lesson, and the third part is a question (which is answered in the first part of the next text).
Most texts are longer than this, but that is a good example.
Also, feel free to change any of daily texts to better suit your group.
The 3 classes
These next two links are to test theological knowledge. I added this after realizing that many youth do not have a good understanding of basic theological examples. For example, in one New Testament class we talked about the resurrection, and I mentioned that Jesus had always existed. One student (who she said had practically lived at her church because she attended so often) was confused and said that the Father created the Son. I assured her that Jesus was God and had always existed, and she blurted out: “Do you mean that my pastor has lied to me all my life when he told me over and over that Jesus was the son of God?” Plus, even adults get confused: I taught a Bible study at a church for adults and mentioned that Christianity taught that there was one God in the forms of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. One man got mad and said that Christianity taught that there were three gods, and he was going to report me to the pastor for teaching false ideas.
I have both a two-week texting version or the 10 questions listed. (Some group leaders like to use this as a separate class just to make sure people understand basic theological ideas.)
Why "Hub and Spoke"?
This class is set up so that you, the leader, receive the list of texts and therefore you are the hub. You send it to a group, who are the spokes (like a bicycle tire). If they have any questions, the questions are sent to you and not to me. That way you can keep track of who needs guidance or is confused. You can always feel free to email me at the link on the bottom right.
Please feel free to email me with any questions or comments at link on the bottom right (it appears on all pages in this website).
