- Mark Nickens is a native of North Carolina and currently lives in the rural town (no stoplights!) of Sandy Ridge, NC, just north of Winston-Salem. He is married to Teresa, who was a high school art teacher and is currently working on her master's degree in biblical exegesis at Liberty University, and has one daughter, LindsayAnn, who is a Ph.D. student in Old Testament at Dallas Theological Seminary and teaches at Dallas Baptist University.

- Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1999
- Since 1994, Mark has taught at over 20 seminaries, universities, Bible colleges, and Bible institutes in the USA as well in the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa.
- He teaches classes through a small unaccredited school he created and operates called "Trinitas Bible Institute."
- Mark has made presentations at academic meetings as well as written articles for academic journals, a national denominational magazine, and for several encyclopedias.
- He teaches classes for professors and administrators learning how to teach online classes through the International Council for Evangelical Theological Education Academy (ICETE) and is an Associate for Theologians without Borders, an organization that finds teaching positions for professors who want to teach in the Majority World/Global South.
- He has worked with over 40 Christian institutes and seminaries in other countries as they develop online programs.
