Lesson 2: Introduction
The first week of the class was like being an astronaut in space and looking at the whole earth at the same time: You spent the week examining the major points of the entire OT story.
This week will be more like being a passenger in a small plane: we will look at different parts of the OT closer and in more detail. This includes examining larger themes that occur in the OT but would not visible from outer space (using the astronaut idea) or if you are on the ground (examining each book in detail).
Topics:
- The importance of the two OT cornerstones (the Covenant and the Law) and tying them into the Christian life
- Changing worship centers
- The Holy Spirit in the OT, or not
- Why are the Protestant OT books and the Jewish Bible arranged differently?
- The Protestant OT vs the Catholic/Orthodox OT: Why do they have different books?
- Fun facts:
- Why is LORD used over 6000 times in the OT instead of Lord or lord?
- What is the earliest piece of the OT that has been discovered?
