Summary
- The twelve apostles asked Jesus to show them the rewards of the afterlife. Two men appeared who were shining and beautiful. Jesus said these were two of those who went on to heaven. He then showed them heaven, a beautiful place filled with plants and sweet-smelling. The Christians there were dressed as angels.
- The author (apparently Peter) then saw a darker place and described the view. In hell, people received different punishments according to their actions on the earth. For example, women who practiced adultery were hung by their hair over hot, bubbling mire. Men who practiced unrighteousness were in a lake of flaming mire. Murderers were in a place filled with evil snakes who continually bit them. People who persecuted Christians were beaten by demons and eaten by worms. Many other torments were described. We do not have the end of the original, so the book ends suddenly.
